The 10 Commandments of the USMA

Commandment #1
The integrity of the Physician Patient Relationship shall be the top priority for the USMA and will inform every position it adopts.

Commandment #2
The wellbeing of each physician’s patient is, and of right ought to be, his or her most important professional priority.

Commandment #3
The UMSA shall always work to protect, enhance, and improve the physician’s station in society.
Commandment #4
The USMA will always maintain that there is no substitute for the physician.
Commandment #5
The USMA shall never allow any undue outside influence to interfere with the manner in which it represents its members and the medical profession.

Commandment #6
In line with the spirit of the Hippocratic Oath, the termination of a human life shall never fall within the physician’s scope of practice.

In working to care for a patient, the physician shall always work within the confines of those immutable characteristics of his or her patient.

Commandment #8
The USMA will work to develop educational programs for students and physicians that will enhance their knowledge base, skills, and ethics consistent with the precepts memorialized in these Commandments.
Commandment #9
Optimal reimbursement for the work a physician does is essential to the wellbeing of the profession and to the wellbeing of those who practice it.
Commandment #10
Physicians are, by nature, members of a special fraternity of professionals who owe it to themselves, their colleagues, and their vocation to support each other both professionally and outside of the confines of their practices.
